TRY THE TWO-QUESTIONFind musicians to collaborate with - it sounds easy, but it can be a long and difficult task. When you start a band or join a band, you will be forgiven for thinking that it’s almost impossible to find musicians with the right attitude, the right ability, the right gear, the right age, the right availability in the right genre - all in the right place!
Sourcing musicians for your studio recording can be just as difficult. To achieve a pro recording you have to make a band work - you need the right band mix. Countless sessions have not achieved their full potential simply because members of the band wanted different things - musicians wanted their own vision fulfilled.
Of course, when you’re looking for a band it’s hard enough to find a band, but bands looking for you are having the same problems!

After world war 2 Seattle had quite a vibrant dance and jazz scene, this was partly helped by a rather open and tolerant police force who tolerated the after hours Jazz clubs that were spreading through the City. It was during this period that artists like Quincey Jones and Ray Charles began to make a name for themselves. A local law change in 1949 unfortunately did have an effect which did not help the Seattle nightlife and music scene which did go into a bit of a decline. The 60’s and into the 70’s Seattle music began to have a resurgence with a growing dance scene, some local bands began to have hit records.
Late 70’s and into the 80’s Seattle developed a punk scene which was short lived. Most music genres can be split into sub genres Rock music is one example, the coming together of the Hardcore and Metal artists created a further sub genre, Grunge can well and truly be said to have been invented in Seattle. With the help of local Seattle radio the new grunge bands were given airplay and soon became visible on the National scene and to be copied around the world.
Although the Grunge scene was really only a short affair becoming watered down and diluted with other influences. The Indie scene that was growing in popularity by the mid 90’s was also heavily promoted by the loyal Seattle radio stations which helped continue the tradition of hit making Seattle bands.
Seattle has every right to be proud of the major talent to come from the City, many artists coming from Seattle have gone on to find National and International success; Jimi Hendrix, Keith, Godchaux (Grateful Dead), Judy Collins, Kenny G, Queesryche, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains and Fleet Foxes.
The Seattle music community is alive and well covering all music genres, symphony orchestra, pop groups, jazz bands, rock bands and of course indie bands. Musicians wanted in Seattle.
